Turning Point Can We Make Our Own Future?
We are at a historic juncture, how we respond to these challenges now and over the next 20 years will determine the amount of chaos our children will have to endure. Can we achieve the Utopian world of the technological future that we were promised as we grew up, or will social and political unrest plunge us all into a new Dark Age?
Even before the financial meltdown that spread its destruction throughout the US and the global economy we knew we were in a time of turmoil. Newly emerging powers rising to challenge the dominance of the US. New, organized enemies that are not nation states. The unparalleled global reach of new forms of media. New hopes in medicine and the fact that more people than ever can not afford it. How do we cope?
Greed has taken us to the point that we are becoming a world of the privileged few and the many have nots. Have we reached an Orwellian vision after all? Look at the homeless. Are they the people we expect to see?
At an even more basic level, the continuing ecological crisis has reached a tipping point, or a point of no return.
These developments have created a sense of CRISIS.
But they also present us with an OPPORTUNITY – perhaps a historic opportunity – to push for change through ART.
